The plane was one of two making loop-to-loops with smoke trailing as part of the annual air show at Dayton International Airport. It slammed into the runway across a field from spectators and caught fire. Witnesses said the crowd stood stunned as the show was shut down. The pilot was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, according to a nursing supervisor. Fire trucks sprayed foam on the wreckage to extinguish the fire.
